Matthew Busch of Mahwah Among Students Honored at The University of Scranton

Matthew R. Busch of Mahwah was among 60 members of The University of Scranton's undergraduate class of 2017 honored for academic excellence, service or both at Class Night on May 26 on campus.

Students with the highest GPA in each of the University's three undergraduate colleges were presented Frank J. O'Hara Awards for General Academic Excellence, a memorial to the late administrator who served the University for 53 years. Students were also recognized for excellence within their various disciplines.

Busch was the recipient of the Excellence in Biomathematics Award. He graduated summa cum laude with a double major in biomathematics and neuroscience and a double minor in philosophy and biochemistry. He is a member of the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honor Program and the Nu Rho Psi, Pi Mu Epsilon and Alpha Sigma Nu honor societies. Busch is a member of the Health Professions Organization, a committee member for "Take Back the Night" and has traveled to Nicaragua on an International Service trip. He is also a tutor for the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence and Elm Park Church daycare. This fall, Busch will be pursuing an M.D. at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, Scranton, Pennsylvania. Busch is a graduate of Mahwah High School, Mahwah, New Jersey.
