Several area residents were among The University of Scranton students inducted into Pi Mu Epsilon, the national honor society for mathematics. Inductees must be mathematics majors in their junior or senior year with an overall grade point average of 3.33 and a 3.50 average in mathematics. Biomathematics majors who meet the criteria can be nominated. The Jesuit university's chapter was installed in February 1973. The following area residents were inducted into the honor society.

Inductees are full-time students maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or above who rank in the top 20 percent of their class. The Scranton chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu was founded in 1943 and is the oldest honor society at The University of Scranton.
