The University of Scranton is a Catholic and Jesuit university animated by the spiritual vision and the tradition of excellence characteristic of the Society of Jesus.

For 21 consecutive years, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Scranton among the 10 top Master’s Universities in the North. U.S. News has also ranked the University among America’s “up and coming” schools to watch, identifying Scranton among the nation’s universities making “the most promising and innovative changes in area of academics, faculty, student life, campus or facilities.” 

In addition, Scranton is among the select colleges in the U.S. earning Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement. The Chronicle of Higher Education has also listed Scranton among the “top producers” of Fulbright awards for American students for ten consecutive years.

Founded in 1888, Scranton is a nationally respected comprehensive university located in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Northeast region with an enrollment of approximately 4,000 undergraduate students and 1,500 graduate students. Scranton has earned accreditation from 17 accrediting agencies, including recognition by the nation’s most prestigious bodies in the fields of business and management, nursing, computer science, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chemistry and counseling.

Student-Athletes Honored for Academic Success

Sixty-three University of Scranton student-athletes named to the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. The Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher and are at least at a sophomore level academically. The conference honored 365 student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll.

Bridgette Mann Named University of Scranton Athlete of the Week

Sophomore guard Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) took the game over late on Saturday at Rochester, as the guard lifted the fifth-ranked University of Scranton women's basketball team to the 2016 Chuck Resler Invitational Championship in a four-point victory. For her efforts over the weekend in a pair of victories for the Lady Royals, Mann has been named the University of Scranton Athlete of the Week for the period ending Nov. 20, 2016.

Matthew Busch Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Team for Men's Soccer

Senior Matthew Busch (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) of the University of Scranton men's soccer team can add one more award to his list of postseason accolades, as the defender was named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Division III Men's Soccer Team on Friday, nabbing a spot on the Second Team.

Casey Earns Prestigious Academic All-American Honors

For senior defender Erin Casey (Hatfield, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy), success on the field and in the classroom has been a constant during her time on The University of Scranton women's soccer team. Now, she has been named one of the top student-athletes in her sport. Casey has been named second-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the highest honor recognizing student-athletes for their athletic and academic accomplishments.

Kirwan Nabs Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week Honors

Sophomore Kristin Kirwan (Park Ridge, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) finished off an historic 2016 regular season this past week, leading a Scranton attack that went 4-0 on the week. For her efforts, Kirwan was named the Landmark Conference's Volleyball Athlete of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced. For Kirwan, this marks the third time on her career that she has won the award, and the first time she has won the award during the 2016 season.

Men's Soccer's Matthew Busch Nabs CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors for Third Straight Season

For the third consecutive season, senior Matthew Busch (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) of the University of Scranton men's soccer team has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Thursday. Busch made the Academic All-Distrct Team for the third straight year for Division III, District Four, a district comprised of Division III institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Caulfield Collects Athlete of the Week Honor After Clutch Goal

Senior James Caulfield (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) made sure The University of Scranton men's soccer team would begin defense of the Landmark Conference championship at home when he scored to give the Royals a 1-0 victory at Catholic on Saturday. The win secured the second seed in this week's Landmark Conference playoffs and meant Scranton will host a semifinal on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field. For her efforts in the meet, Sommers has been named the Landmark Conference's Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon. Senior Brittany Cafiero (Merrick, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) lent more than a helping hand as The University of Scranton women's volleyball team clinched a playoff berth with a pair of victories on Friday. Cafiero totaled 57 assists and 17 digs as the Royals secured their spot in the Landmark Conference postseason with wins over Elizabethtown and Moravian. For her efforts, Cafiero has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
