Eighteen University of Scranton education majors are serving as student teachers during the spring semester at 14 schools in 9 school districts, which are Abington Heights, Scranton, Lackawanna Trail, North Pocono, Blue Ridge, Dunmore, The Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, Valley View and Western Wayne.

Eleven University of Scranton students, nine faculty and staff members, and two alumni presented research projects and led workshop sessions at the Eastern Psychological Association annual meeting held in March in New York City.

Junior forward John Vitkus (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) of The University of Scranton men's basketball team has enjoyed a standout season on the court for the Royals. On Thursday, he was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for his work both on the court and in the classroom.

The students are: Matthew Reynolds, a sophomore from Apalachin, New York; and seniors Grace O'Neill of Avoca, Christa Musto of Forty Fort, Nicole McAndrew of Archbald and Alice Chen-Liaw of Morris Plains, New Jersey.

Frank O'Hara medals were given to the first-, second-, third-year, and graduate students with the highest grade point averages in the Kania School of Management, the Panuska College of Professional Studies, and the College of Arts and Sciences for the 2014-2015 academic year. The award is named in honor of the late Frank O'Hara who served the University for 53 years in various administrative positions.

Junior forward Sarah Payonk (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring-Ford) posted a big week in two victories for the Lady Royals women's basketball team over Drew and Elizabethtown, and for her efforts, she has been named the University of Scranton's Athlete of the Week for the period ending January 31.

Students are among 30 graduates of The University of Scranton's Honors Program, which is among the Jesuit university's programs of excellence. Students in the Honors Program pursue a rigorous education that stresses independent work through close engagement with professors and other honors students, including the preparation, presentation and defense of a research or creative project during their senior year.

Members of The University of Scranton's class of 2015 who volunteered after graduation for long-term service projects with nonprofit organizations and underserved populations throughout the country. Their service begins this summer and includes programs run by Teach for America and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.
