The University of Scranton students are inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta, the international honor society for sociology students.

Forty-five University of Scranton students were inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit honor society. Alpha Sigma Nu is the only honor society open to students and faculty in all disciplines of the University. Junior and senior students who have distinguished themselves in scholarship, loyalty and service are eligible for nomination by chapter members.

Alice Chen-Liaw of Morris Plains, was among four University of Scranton students who recently presented their research at the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) annual conference in Philadelphia.

Christopher L. Kilner of Rockville, a triple major at The University of Scranton, is among just 260 students in the nation earning the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, which is one of the most coveted honors in science, mathematics and engineering that an undergraduate can achieve. A full-tuition Presidential Scholar at Scranton, Kilner is the 11th University of Scranton student to be named a Goldwater Scholar in just over a decade.

University of Scranton students participated in alternative spring break service trips in March that allowed them to work with the homeless, former gang members, children with disabilities, and others in need through service agencies throughout the country.

Christopher LoGiurato of Wilton, a University of Scranton student was among just 123 students from 52 higher education institutions in the nation named as University Innovation Fellows by the National Center for Engineering Pathways to Innovation.

Local residents are among the 25 University of Scranton education majors will serve as student teachers during the spring semester at 14 schools in 10 school districts, which are Blue Ridge, Lackawanna Trail, Pittston Area, North Pocono, Western Wayne, Mid Valley, Scranton, Valley View, Lakeland and Dunmore.

More than 1,425 students were named to The University of Scranton Dean's List, which recognizes students for academic excellence during the 2014 fall semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to make the Dean's List.

Students serve as officers of The University of Scranton's more than 80 clubs and organizations for the 2014/2015 academic year.

The University of Scranton inducted 114 students into Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Honor Society for Freshmen, at a ceremony held on campus. For membership, students must rank in the top 20 percent of the class, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 for the first semester of their freshman year, and be enrolled on a full-time basis. The Richard H. Passon Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta was founded in 2001 at Scranton.

University of Scranton Student Government officers helped to organize more than 400 student volunteers for a clean up of areas in the hill section near campus.
