Students are part of The University of Scranton's orientation team who will host two-day orientation sessions for the more than 1,000 members of its incoming Class of 2018 and their parents and guests July 7-8, 10-11, 14-15 and 17-18 at locations throughout campus.

Christina M. Scully of Paramus, N.J., was among the 63 members of The University of Scranton's undergraduate class of 2014 honored for academic excellence, service or both at Class Night on May 30. Also recognized were the University's four Fulbright scholarship recipients for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Ten members of The University of Scranton's class of 2014 were commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army during the Jesuit school's commencement exercises. Major General Michael J. Terry, a 1979 University of Scranton graduate and Commanding General of TACOM (Tank-automotive and Armaments Command), served as guest speaker at the ceremony. Graduates of Marywood University and Baptist Bible College were also commissioned as officers at the ceremony.

Twenty University of Scranton graduates, including 17 members of the University's class of 2014, volunteered for long-term service projects with nonprofit organizations and underserved populations internationally and in states throughout the country. Their service begins as early as June and includes programs run by Teach for America and the Jesuit Volunteer Corp.

More than 1,480 students were named to The University of Scranton Dean's List, which recognizes students for academic excellence during the 2014 spring semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to make the Dean's List.
