Students Receive O'Hara Award for Academic Achievement

More than 1,425 students were named to The University of Scranton Dean's List, which recognizes students for academic excellence during the 2014 fall semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to make the Dean's List.

Students serve as officers of The University of Scranton's more than 80 clubs and organizations for the 2014/2015 academic year.

The University of Scranton inducted 114 students into Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Honor Society for Freshmen, at a ceremony held on campus. For membership, students must rank in the top 20 percent of the class, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 for the first semester of their freshman year, and be enrolled on a full-time basis. The Richard H. Passon Chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta was founded in 2001 at Scranton.

University of Scranton Student Government officers helped to organize more than 400 student volunteers for a clean up of areas in the hill section near campus.

Alumnus Ralph J. DiRuggiero Honored at Annual President's Business Council Award Dinner

The University of Scranton has appointed 26 new full-time faculty members for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The University's President's Business Council (PBC) honored Ralph J. DiRuggiero of the University's class of 1973 with the President's Medal at the 13th Annual Award Dinner Oct. 9 at The Pierre Hotel in New York City.

Fifteen University of Scranton education majors will serve as student teachers during the fall semester at 10 schools in six school districts, which are the Diocese of Scranton, Lackawanna Trail, Scranton, Valley View, Western Wayne and Wilkes-Barre.

Brittany Boribong of Pataskala, Ohio, a senior majoring in biomathematics at The University of Scranton, has been selected for a highly-competitive Summer Research Experience (SRE) for Undergraduates and Teachers program offered by The National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee.

Class of 2014 graduates of The University of Scranton's Honors Program, which is among the Jesuit university's programs of excellence, gathered on campus recently. Students in the Honors Program pursue a rigorous education that stresses independent work through close engagement with professors and other honors students, including the preparation, presentation and defense of a research or creative project during their senior year.
