Nearly 70 University of Scranton students inducted into the national Jesuit honor society (Alpha Sigma Nu). This is the only honor society open to students and faculty in all disciplines of the University.

The University of Scranton's 2017 student advertising team competed against students from colleges in Pennsylvania, New York and Washington, D.C., in the District 2 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). The district competition took place in April in New York City.

University of Scranton junior Matthew Reynolds, a biology and biophysics double major and member of the University's Honors Program, was awarded a highly-selective Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, which is the nation's premier undergraduate scholarship for the fields of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering. Reynolds, of Apalachin, New York, was among just 240 students from 157 colleges in the nation to earn Goldwater Scholarship for the 2017-18 academic year.

David Velez of Long Beach, New York, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology major, served as a student speaker at Preview Day for high school students accepted to the University of Scranton's Class of 2021 and their families on Saturday, April 1.

University of Scranton students took first, second and third place awards in competitions at the 2017 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Region 2 Student Activities Conference, which was held in the spring semester at Rowan University in New Jersey. Twenty-five Scranton students participated in contests that included robotics, physics, design and student paper and ethics competitions, as well as leadership training.

Ten University of Scranton students, five faculty members, and one alumna presented research projects and led workshop sessions at the Eastern Psychological Association annual meeting held in March in Boston.

Students were among 45 University of Scranton students who participated in six domestic service trips organized by Campus Ministries' Center for Service and Social Justice.

Twenty-four University of Scranton education majors are serving as student teachers during the spring semester at 13 schools, which include Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit 19 and the following nine school districts: Bear Creek, Blue Ridge, Dunmore, Mid Valley, North Pocono, Scranton, Valley View, Wallenpaupack and Wyoming Seminary.
